It’s almost that time again — time for our top American PGA Professinals to go up against the best PGA Professionals Britain and Ireland have to offer. It won’t be easy, but that’s kind of the point. In a sort of cross-Atlantic golf rivalry that’s spanned the last 76 years, the PGA Cup is a team event that we look forward to every season.

Started in 1939 as the Home Tournament Series, it wasn’t long before World War II put a major pause on the world of golf. In fact, 1939 was the first and last time the Home Tournament Series would be played. England won that year and Percy Alliss took home the coveted Llandudno International Trophy.

It stayed in his family until the early 1970s, when the rivalry between America and Britain was given yet another venue in the form of the PGA Cup. The Llandudno Cup was a perfect prize for this long-awaited event and it has been the crown jewel of the PGA of America ever since. American golfers have held the cup since 2007, but this could be the year that we have to send it back home again.

Presenting America’s 2015 PGA Cup Team

A ten-man team has finally been chosen from a long list of talented American PGA Professionals. The first eight were announced on July 1, with Matt Dobyns, Michael Block, Bob Sowards, Jamie Broce, Stuart Dean, Alan Morin, Ben Polland and Grant Sturgeon making up the early team. Sean Dougherty and Omar Uresti will be joining these players.

Dobyns, Morin and Sowards are PGA Cup veterans, having played in four Cups combined, with a record of 9-5-3. America currently has a 17-5-4 record in the PGA Cup, 11-0-2 at home. That’s lucky, since this year the PGA Cup will be hosted at CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California.

Still, we’ll be going up against stiff competition from Great Britain and Ireland, in a team format that few golfers have much experience playing. Save the date, this big event will run from September 18 to 20 and promises to be a great weekend of golf for everybody.
