5 Most Important Golf Tips for Beginners to Know

Golf Tips for Beginners

While golf isn’t often thought of as an “exciting” sport by those outside the game, few people who are passionate about golf can deny the thrill of building a great swing, watching your ball soar after an awesome drive, or the sound of the ball hitting the bottom of the hole after just one or two great shots. If you’re just getting into golfing, get ready to truly fall in love with the sport! here are 5 killer golf tips for beginners, so you can get started off on the right foot.

  1. Get Great Posture

Posture is everything when it comes to the first swing, and again when you’re putting. Poor posture will lead to a change in your swing path, meaning that your ball isn’t going to go where you want it to go. Instead, get great posture by planting your feet firmly and tilting your hips instead of your waist.

  1. Practice Your Club Grip

How you grip the golf club is critical when it comes to both swinging and putting. However, it may not be enough to simply adjust your grip on the green. Practice your grip at home too by taking out your new golf clubs and gripping them for thirty seconds to a minute, a few times throughout the day. This is a great excuse to whip out your golf bag and have fun at home while simultaneously sharpening your skills.

  1. Practice With a Short Lofted Club

If you’re just starting out, a great golf club to begin with is a short, lofted club like the Callaway Mack Daddy 2 Wedge, or the Nike Engage Square Wedge. However, almost any wedge will do, since wedges have the highest loft and the shortest shafts out of all the different types of golf clubs. By practicing with a club that has plenty of loft, you won’t learn to “scoop” the ball upwards to get flight.

  1. Ditch the Driver Too

One of the best golf tips for beginners is to avoid using the driver for the first several months of play. This may seem counterintuitive, however, to keep from learning bad habits, you should stick with the shorter, easier clubs until you have mastered hitting the ball with those consistently. Only move up to the longer, more challenging clubs like drivers when you are ready.

  1. Master Your Short Game Before Your Long

While many beginner golfers think that a powerful drive is all there is to golfing, this is far from true. In fact, the short game is just as, if not more, important than the long. Try practicing your golf skills on a par 3 course when you’re just starting out, so you can put more focus and effort into perfecting your short game skills before you move on to the more challenging golf courses.

Golf can seem extraordinarily challenging, especially since there are always new things to learn and more ways to get even better. Utilize these great golf tips for beginners to start honing your game, and before long, you’ll be as good as the pros.
