It was a full roster at the 2015 Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, with pros from across the globe making an appearance. All eyes were on Lydia Ko, defending champion, and her collection of Callaway clubs. Not quite 18, Ko celebrated her birthday in the middle of the event, with cake and birdies a plenty.
Although Ko led the pack for much of the event, she wasn’t the only player in the top four carrying Callaways — Morgan Pressel was also swinging away with the company’s clubs. These two walked away with first and second place, at -8 strokes each. Although not as impressive as Ko’s 2014, -12 finish, it was enough to beat the competition. Ping fought hard but came in third, piloted by LPGA rookie Brooke Henderson.
Titleist, it seems, simply wasn’t up to the task this time — they made an appearance in fourth place under the control of Min Seo Kwak, fifth, handled by Shanshan Feng, and were part of a three-way tie for sixth with Ha Na Jang and Amy Yang at the wheel. With so many Titleist players in the field, it was a disappointing for them not to take home the trophy.
Callaway Gear Helps Hold Ko’s Title
Although Ko only signed with Callaway in early 2014, she’s already a die-hard fan — and for good reason. They were with her when she won her first LPGA Tour event, last year’s Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic. Not quite a year later, she was named the number one ranked female professional golfer, still carrying her Callaways.
So, what’s in that dynamite bag? As of the 2015 Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic, it’s stuffed with great gear from Callaway, including:
Big Bertha Alpha 815 DD Driver (9 degrees)
Big Bertha Alpha 815 Fairways (14 and 18 degrees)
X2 Hot Pro Hybrids (20 and 23 degrees)
X2 Hot Hybrid (25 degrees)
Apex Pro Irons (6-PW)
Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind Wedges (54 and 60 degrees)
Odyssey Tank Cruiser 330 Mallet Putter
Callaway’s presence on the LPGA isn’t new or fresh, but it says a lot that they’ve got the leading dog in the field for this packed tournament. Some of their newest innovations, especially in the Big Bertha series, has made Callaway gear ideal for female golfers of every skill level.
